An amateur wildlife photographer Steve Biro is enjoying a moment of fame thanks to a brush with Bruce the bald eagle. Biro had taken many photos a bald eagle, but there was one in particular that stood out from the rest.
Biro was visiting the Canadian Raptor Conservancy in Ontario, when he caught the eye of one of the sanctuary’s most famous residents.
Biro, began photography as a hobby 10 years ago, was visiting Ontario’s Canadian Raptor Conservancy when he encountered Bruce the bald eagle, where the image has gone viral since.
“He’s squared up perfectly, both wings are touching the water,” he said. “That [photograph] was the one that struck me as little more special than the others. He’s really awesome and fairly well behaved but also has a mind of his own too,” he explained.
Biro set up his camera with hoping to snap a picture of the bird of prey flying over the water. It was at this point he noticed Bruce was not happy with Biro’s perch.
“He was actually trying to brush me away from where I was perched,” he said “I could feel the breeze from his wings as he flew over me. The other people who were there were gasping as he came over my head. It was really quite exhilarating.”
Biro snapped away as Bruce passed over. The end result was breathtaking. “I knew it was a great image when I saw how balanced it was but never in my wildest dreams did I expect anything of this magnitude.”
Biro’s amazing picture of Bruce the bald eagle has since been shared countless times, including on the front page of Reddit. “It warms my heart to know I might bring joy to people who may not even be able to leave the house and that they love to see the world through my eyes.”
