The pictures below know at the ‘Last Moments’ series, will bring tears to your eyes. They portray the bond between humans and animals in a very unique way.
The images are captured both before and after the pet is euthanized with their owner in their last few moments together at home.
Back in 2017 & 2018 the pictures were taken with the consent of dog owners in the area of Tampa Bay, Florida. They were being assisted by ‘Lap of Love’ an at-home pet euthanasia service which allows the dogs to pass peacefully at home.
After witnessing a close friend struggle after losing her pet photographer Ross Taylor found inspiration for the series.
Olesya Lykovi cried when her dog, Sam passed away she had just asked the doctor if her dog was gone and the doctor said: ‘He has his wings now’
Kiara Manrique shed tears when her dog passed away, saying: ‘I tried to do more, I tried to do all I can. But they said there’s nothing more I can do’. Kimberly her sister, was there to offer her comfort.
Marquita Leibe paced the room near her dog shortly before bending down to be closer to her dog. Daisy was put to sleep as her Donald stepped outside to compose himself.
Kai sensed that something was wrong with his fellow dog, Asia. As Asia was taken out to be buried he followed behind.
Carrie Peterson dropped sunflowers into the grave Asia who’s grave was dug on their farm. ‘The smell of freshly turned earth is what I remember and how peaceful Asia looked within it’, said photographer Ross Taylor.
This image was snapped as Leigh Zahn fights back tears moments before her dog Spencer passed away.
Rebecca Cassity sites with her husband Drew as she struggles to hold back the tears, she said: ‘Coco was there for me when he was on deployment’
Moments before being euthanised Heidi looks up at Bob Lutz. His wife was nearby as their other dog, Winnie looks in through the glass door.
Allie experienced issues with her balance after being diagnosed with cancer. Dr. Glassler was there to give a hospice visit and to suggest how to best handle the situation. ‘Dr. Gassler, and so many others like her, are amazing at what they do and help the painful transition daily, without drawing attention to themselves. ‘They have my respect’, said photographer Ross Taylor
Vanessa Gangadyal consoles her 8-Year-Old son Lan as her husband pets their dog, Ally who passe away shortly.
Wendy Lehr gives her dog Mimosa one last cuddle shortly after she passed. Family members were present to console her. She said: ‘It couldn’t be done without their willingness to participate and believe in the project… They have my respect’
Lap of Love has worked with Caring Pathways to provide an ‘at home’ peaceful euthanasia service to dog owners and their pets.
