As a baby eight-year-old Jackson McKie, was diagnosed with a cyst on his brain, a condition know as hydrocephalus, a gathering of cerebrospinal liquid inside the brain. Since then he has spent a lot of his short life so far in hospital. In a simple world, no kid would ever see within a doctor’s hospital while growing up.
They would have the opportunity to play and learn in a safe environment, as all youngsters should. His sidekicks on his trips have always remained the same, his mother, father, and his teddy bear “Little Baby”.
Luckily, Jackson’s has an amazing team of doctors to support him. One in particular Daniel McNeely has been fighting his corner as far back since he appeared on the scene.
During Jackson’s most recent operation, he had one special request for his surgeon while he was under. Daniel knew he couldn’t refuse this little boy he has helped for almost eight years. So, without even checking with Jackson’s parents, he did something that no surgeon is trained to do.
Following his actions Daniel been since been praised all over the world for his compassionate effort. “I thought it might make a few people smile, that was the only intention I had,” McNeely said, according to a source. “I’m glad that others are enjoying it.”
Daniel asked the nurses to prepare a small operating table. He first operated on Jackson, but when he had finished he decided there was still a little work to do. Prior to being put asleep, Jackson has a request for Daniel to see if he could operate on his teddy bear “Little Baby” as well. Without a second thought, the doctor accepted the task without hesitation.
In the meantime, Jackson’s father had so many good things to say about Daniel. It goes to show he is not just an incredible neurosurgeon, but also an amazing human being. “He’s one of the kindest people I’ve ever met,” Daniel’s dad Rick tells CTV news.
When Jackson awoke from surgery, he was delighted to see “Little Baby” had been patched up the same as him. Doctor Daniel’s surgery on “Little Baby” was the first he’d done on a teddy bear, but something tells me it’s not likely to be his last.
After the operation, he chose to share his story on social media and has since been hailed for his efforts. “Patient asks if I can also fix teddy bear just before being put off to sleep… how could I say no?”
